Notices ➞ Teacher Education Programs taken Partially or Wholly Outside of a University

TQS Policy regarding teacher education programs taken outside of a university has changed.

What Changed?

Who should apply?

  1. If you completed an acceptable teacher education program outside or partially outside of a university setting, you should request a Director's review of your assigned category placement.
  2. If you completed an acceptable teacher education program in France, you should request a Director's review of your assigned category placement.

To request a Director's Review:

Submit your request through the "Contact Us" page on our website.  You must provide verification of current employment in the BC public school system (most applicants photocopy a pay stub) in order to receive a Director's review.

Please Note: If you are currently in category six (6), this change does not affect you.

Definitions:

A one-year or two-year acceptable teacher education program results in certification by the authority for public education teacher certification in the jurisdiction in which it is taken and is acceptable for initial teacher certification in British Columbia.
